Can therapy help me or my family?

This is a great question. If you are thinking about seeing a therapist and are not sure if therapy will be helpful, here are some questions to ask yourself.

  • Do you feel as if your life is out of control?
  • Do you feel either that you are not respected or you have lost respect from you child?
  • Do you feel "stuck"?
  • Do you feel unmotivated or unable to engage in the activities that at one time you enjoyed?
  • Do you feel that no matter what you do, it’s not working?
  • Are you feeling constantly frustrated by your relationships with others?
  • Do you feel angry, sad or numb all the time?
  • Have you experienced a major life trauma such as death or divorce and feel as if your world has stopped?
  • Do you feel that no matter what you do your child or family continues to spiral out of control?
  • Are you distracted by personal issues to the point that it is interfering with the rest of your life?
  • If you answered yes to any of these questions, counseling may help you.

How long do appointments usually last?
Appointments generally last 45 to 50 minutes.

What is an LCSW?
LCSW stands for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a clinical social worker?
A psychologist and a clinical social worker can both provide counseling services. Differences exist in our license and training. Psychologists may provide testing services, social workers generally do not.

Do you accept insurance?
Yes, please see list of insurances accepted on the services page.

How frequently will we meet?
This is dependent upon you and your needs. Some clients need a weekly appointment, while others need less frequent appointments.

What should I expect from counseling?
I use a client centered philosophy in counseling. That means I will work with you to define counseling goals. We will use our time in counseling to work on accomplishing your goals. Together, we will evaluate progress and need for continued counseling services.

Do you prescribe medication?
No. Only a medical doctor or nurse practitioner can prescribe medication. I work in tandem with several psychiatrists. If we decide that a medication evaluation is necessary, I can assist you is choosing a doctor.
